In the river of life GURU is the only RUDDER

Gayatri MahamantraIn the Vedas life is explained  as a river.  The stream of life has been flowing like the river water flowing through the gorges and hills.  O friend, cross it over.  Whatever burden of life is carried, leave it this side.  Whatever burden is being carried to achieve the aim, cast it here. Whatever is helpful in achieving the aim is a blessing.  Hold on to the blessings.  Everyone knows that the river which is passing through the hills, no doubt, carries little water but makes a lot of noise.  It runs fast. It is very difficult to set foot in the fast-flowing water because it dislodges the feet.  There is always the danger of slipping and flowing with the water.

All this points to one thing that in the river of the world very few people were able to hold their feet in the fast running water and many of them had flown along with the water.  In the river there are lot of stones and these stones are covered with moss due to which there are greater possibilities of slipping and being washed away.  The water that comes in the hilly rivers come from the melting of snow.  As the day progresses more and more of snow gets melted which increases the flow and level of water.  The wise people always try to cross these rivers in the early hours of the day because the water level then is low.  It is always helpful to cross the hilly rivers in the morning hours.  That is why the pilgrims should cross such hilly rivers between three or four and 6 O'clock in the morning.

The saints and sages have always said that if the worldly rivers have to be crossed then it should be done in the early hours.  The early hours are the hours filled with good qualities.  The early hours are the early segments of life.  To cross the worldly river the early hours are very beneficial.  During that time your feet will get firmly established.  There will be less chances of slipping.  The mind shall get stabilized and the pilgrimage shall be comfortable.  Each and every word of the Vedas is carefully chosen because that is the voice of God.  The assessor who can dive deeper shall bring up pearls of higher value.  If anyone cannot assess the value then he will not get pearls. But even if you cross the river with low level of water there will still be danger of slipping because of the moss on the stones.  Some of the stones are round, flat, sharp and some are like rocks.

In the river of life there are lying these five types of stones which you call them lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego.  These stones are lying in the river of life. If the river has to be crossed safely be cautious that your feet should not fall on these stones.  Go across passing them by.  Remember that these are not large as they are seen.  In fact they are small.  They are submerged in the water and only a portion of them is seen.  Your feet can fall on them by accident.

Who in the world wishes to be angry but the anger comes up automatically.  Who would like anyone to be called greedy but the greed somehow appears.  When there is greed then relationship is not recognized.  These are not seen at all.  There is no distinction between large and small, the love between the brothers comes to an end, the intelligence gets blocked and madness descends upon the person. The man loses sense when in anger. A sort of fit of madness grows within.  The result of such an anger is that the man does not remember what has been said and where. Any angry man does not know what has been said by him but the listener knows what has been said about him.  He gets hurt most by knowing that whatever opinion has been formed about him has come out.  By knowing this he gets gravely hurt.  But the one who is in anger unknowingly continues to hurt.

The anger does not end here only with talking.  The anger has many a company.  It has a large family.  Slander and backbiting are its daughters.  All of them get united.  Obstinacy, a sister of anger also comes in.  The anger does not come alone.  It comes in full force with its full family.  It has an elder brother also, pride.  All of them get united.  The whole personality of the man undergoes a change.  It has daughters and daughters-in-law as well.  The son is malice and the daughter-in-law is jealousy.  They also stand by.  On the forehead is sitting anger, in the eyes comes the jealousy, and on the nose comes sitting malice in the garb of hatred.  The man makes faces by looking at people.  The moment there is any malice against anyone, and when the anger appears all other conditions appear automatically because the family line of anger is long and wide.  When they come and pusses you, you do not even know them.  All of them encircle you together.

They sit on your face and also on your chest.  When they do come, the tongue becomes surely aware of them.  It begins to falter.  The nose becomes aware of them because the nostrils begin to expand. When the man is in anger his nostrils begin to expand, the tongue begins to falter, and the teeth begin to grind. The eyebrows also become tense because here on them sits the lady of the household.  The daughter-in-law jealousy is sitting there.  The slander and backbiting are the daughters-in-law.  So the anger has not come alone.  It has come in full face with all its family members.

People are always keen to listen to the criticism of anyone against whom there is some jealousy and slander.  People use a lot of their energy in casting slander and backbiting in hard words against those whom they hate.  Anger creates gulfs between brothers who had loved each other.  With anger they get apart and with that difference a wide gulf appears between them and when there is gulf then the jealousy, malice and conflict grow by themselves.

Now it comes to a situation when the brothers feel happy by listening to the slander of his brother and the man feels happy to abuse people and feels satisfied if anything wrong comes to the brother. He feels delighted by looking at the spilling of blood of others because the mind is full of malice.  That is why at the time of meditation pray like this with folded hands: 'O God, let there never be malice and enmity in my mind.  O God, please keep me away from the thorns of malice.'

Please remember this that there is only one obstruction in meditation and sleep and that is enmity.  Anyone who becomes aware of his enemy he will not be able to sleep.  He will keep on rolling in the bed.  If the hostility is stuck in the mind then during meditation only the face of the enemy will be seen.  One remembers either his loved ones or the enemies.

When sitting at the feet of God always say this: 'O God, there is no one more lovely for me in this world than You. You are the most loved one.   There is none else in this world than You.  You are most dear to me, O God.  Please bless me with Your grace and love.'

"New Entrants in College should be welcomed as Guests"

Acharya Sudhanshuji Maharaj

It is a matter of privilege to get admission in college. The first day is meant for an affable interaction amongst the students. But unfortunately, the distressing custom of ragging begins the moment a new student enters into college. It begins with a light-hearted and blithe introduction with the new students. If it remains decent, polite and restricted to friendliness, it is certainly welcome at all ages but if it turns into an excruciating mental torment or physical ordeal compelling a newcomer to commit suicide, then it becomes a matter of extreme shame for the entire society. Many students become mentally sick because of this evil practice while many others are forced to end their lives. Under such circumstances, it is natural that the fair image of mankind gets tarnished.

The cause of worry is the fact that in some institutions, students form gangs and inflict so much of mental and physical agony to the First Year students that they are terrorized and study under compelling conditions. Such practice is widely prevalent in medical and engineering colleges. The victims of ragging in turn try to mete out the same treatment to their juniors, thereby continuing a series of violence, fear and inflictions,. Ragging is strictly prohibited in foreign countries, but unfortunately, we Indians have adopted this malicious practice.

This anguish of the students was deeply felt by His Divine Grace Sudhanshuji Maharaj, founder of Vishwa Jagriti Mission, and with his revered blessings, the President of the Mission under Article 32 of the Indian Constitution, filed a Public Interest Appeal in the Supreme Court in August 1998. It was, on 17th December 1998 that the Honourable Judge Sujata.V. Manohar accepted the petition and the honourable judge remarked that "Ragging is not a part of our culture. It's evil influence is increasing in educational institutions. This is a matter of great sorrow and humiliation". This was the first achievement of the Youth Wing of Vishwa Jagriti Mission - that a Spiritual Organization took the initiative of undertaking a rampant issue to the Supreme Court and achieved success.

Vishwa Jagriti Mission is a Spiritual & Cultural organization, but His Divine Grace Sudhanshuji Maharaj , who is the guiding force behind the mission, is also committed to the removal of social ills from the society. According to Him "Indian Culture is extremely vivid, dazzling and exalted which hopes for the welfare of the entire humanity adhering to a feeling of Social Equanimity. We are Indians and it is our custom to welcome guests. The old students are like hosts and it is their duty to respect and cooperate with the new students ". Ragging deeply anguished his compassionate heart since this evil practice had begun to hurt the students physically as well as mentally.

In the court petition, it was requested that under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, every Indian citizen has the fundamental right to life and liberty, which gets violated in case of ragging. The Supreme Court agreed to this petition and issued a notice regarding this to all the concerned Ministries, Officials and Institutions.

The hearing continued. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court under the Chairmanship of Prof. K.P.S. Unny (UGC), formed a three member committee to find solutions to the grave problem of ragging. The attitude of the committee towards this issue was extremely serious and the measures thereby suggested were forwarded to the Supreme Court.

After the completion of the hearing on 18th May, 2001, the Supreme Court has summoned the Human Resource Development Ministry at the Centre and other concerned agencies to take necessary action, the news of which was published in various leading National newspapers on 9th June, 2001. In this context, the Hindustan Times in English and The Navbharat Times in Hindi published an editorial on 11th June, 2001. Ragging has no doubt been curbed but it is yet far from extermination.

The directions given by the Supreme Court, due to the incessant efforts of Vishwa Jagriti Mission, have come at the right time. His Divine Grace has always endeavoured to give the youth a positive direction in life. He established the Youth Wing, inspired thousands of youth in the country. The youth have always played a vital role in Nation Building and Social development. Whether, it was the Kargil war, or the earthquake relief in Gujarat, or the building up of Old-Age Homes, ashrams or schools, their contribution in development is praise-worthy.

The great temples constructed by the mission are great centres for mass prayer. The youth have been motivated to offer oblations to their parents, if they are deceased, and love and care to them when they are alive. To strengthen this feeling, 2nd October is celebrated as

'Shraddha Parva' throughout the country .The mission is running a school in the tribal areas of Ranchi, everyday hundreds of patients are provided medical treatment free of cost at Karuna Sindhu Charitable Hospital in Anand Dham Ashram, hospitals are undergoing construction in two other cities in the country, To spread the Culture and Spiritual treasure of India all over the world, students are being trained at the 'Gurukul Vidyalaya' to assume the role of preachers.

The youth are motivated for social service. Meditation and service camps are specially organised for the youngsters. They are made to take a pledge for rendering service to the nation and humanity at large. Besides bequeathing his cherished blessings to the students aspiring for administrative jobs, His Divine urges them to be loyal, honest and devoted to their duties and also raise their voice against evil. The intellectuals and doctors are urged to strengthen the roots of the nation by serving the poor and the helpless instead of seeking white collared jobs in foreign countries.

With the blessings of His Divine Grace, the mission has also contributed widely towards eliminating corruption and social evils and serving humanity in the right perspective. The issue of ragging, which was forwarded to the supreme court and met with success, is a consequence of the empathy and extraordinary Spiritual Powers of His Divine Grace.

Of day-to-day living and spiritual quest

Parm Pujya Acharya Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj

Spiritual Guru and founder of Vishwa Jagriti Mission

[ 20 Dec, 2001 2327hrs ISTTIMES NEWS NETWORK ]

About 15,000 people sat in rapt attention as spiritual guru and founder of the Vishwa Jagriti Mission, Acharya Sudhanshu Maharaj, delivered a discourse at the police parade ground at shivajinagar, Bangalore on Wednesday (December 19, 2001).

The discourses that offer pearls of wisdom about worldly truths and day-to-day living have been organized from December 18 to 22 for four hours every day, from 8.30 to 10.30 in the morning and 5.00 to 7.00 in the evening. every day well-known personalities from various walks of life who have made a significant contribution to the society will be felicitated by the Vishwa Jagriti Mission.

For the devotees it was an evening to cherish as Acharya Sudhanshu Maharaj suggested some simple ways of bringing happiness into life. giving both mythical and everyday examples, he touched upon various aspects such as career, marriage, health and friendship. he particularly stressed the importance of having a definite goal in life. "one cannot achieve anything unless one is focused. only when a person decides what his goal is can he direct his energies towards it. having one’s aim in front of oneself is as good as mission half accomplished," he observed. citing the examples of Arjun and the French conqueror napoleon, he said that both became great because they stuck to their ambitions and were never distracted. "there will be plenty of temptations that will be strewn in one’s path as one pursues one’s goal. but the challenge lies is not being distracted," he added. another important aspect that Sudhanshu Maharaj emphasized was health. he said that only a person who is in the pink of health can realize his potential fully. "spending some time in prayers is absolutely essential to be at peace with oneself and also to feel close to god. with a nagging problem in the knee or the head, that is not possible. health is the key to success and also the pathway to god’s kingdom. therefore, never ignore or abuse it," he said.
